Challenge

 

The homeowner had grown frustrated with constantly cleaning grout. She even kept a pump sprayer in the shower to make cleaning larger areas easier. Despite that effort, maintaining the grout remained a frequent chore.

 

She wanted to preserve the appearance of a high-end tiled bathroom without repeating the same maintenance problems. Riverbend also needed to address existing damage beneath the old finishes during the renovation.

 

Solution

 

Riverbend recommended large-format wall tile to reduce the number of grout joints while retaining the upscale appearance the homeowner wanted. A hexagonal tile accent runs across the shower and tub surround, with coordinating hexagonal tile extending across the bathroom floor.

 

We selected pure epoxy grout for the installation. Compared with conventional cement-based grout, epoxy grout has very low porosity and greater resistance to moisture absorption and staining. It also eliminates the need for routine grout sealing, although regular cleaning is still necessary.

 

The renovation required removing existing finishes and opening sections of the bathroom to the framing. Riverbend addressed the underlying damage before completing the new surfaces.

 

The finished design incorporates a glass shower enclosure alongside the bathtub, extensive wall tile, and coordinated flooring throughout the bathroom.
